Glossary: construction & AI.

The Dutch Chain Liability Act (WKA) means that a client or main contractor can be held liable for payroll taxes that a subcontractor fails to pay. A G-account is one of the ways to limit that risk.

In Bouw Botje: Bouw Botje has no feature for chain liability calculations or files.

The contract sum is the total price that contractor and client agree for carrying out a construction job. Extra and omitted work are later added to or deducted from it.

In Bouw Botje: The contract sum is the basis for invoicing instalments; through Bouw Botje you query instalment statements and invoiced instalments per project.

A cost calculation is the upfront cost estimate of a project: labour, materials, equipment and subcontracting, usually worked out in the lines of a quotation.

In Bouw Botje: Bouw Botje reads the calculation from the quotation lines in Exact Online Construction and can add quotation lines (quotations_add_line, write access required).

A cost centre is a unit in the administration where costs are collected, such as a department or branch, so you can see where costs arise.

In Bouw Botje: The cost centres from Exact Online Construction are queried with reference_cost_centers.

A delivery ticket is the document that accompanies a delivery of materials to the construction site and records what was delivered and when.

In Bouw Botje: Delivery tickets in Exact Online Construction are searched, created and updated with the delivery_tickets_* tools.

Equipment is the (heavy) tools and machinery deployed on a project, such as cranes, scaffolding or excavators. Its use is booked as a cost on a project.

In Bouw Botje: Equipment, equipment groups and equipment bookings per project are queried and managed with the equipment_* tools.

Extra work is work added on top of the original contract that increases the contract sum; omitted work is work that is dropped and reduces it. Ideally both are agreed in writing beforehand.

In Bouw Botje: By putting the calculation next to booked hours and costs, Bouw Botje helps you spot deviations. Recording and settling extra and omitted work is done in Exact Online Construction.

A G-account is a blocked Dutch bank account into which a main contractor pays the part of an invoice that covers a subcontractor's payroll taxes (and possibly VAT). Payments from a G-account can only go to the Dutch Tax Administration or to another G-account.

In Bouw Botje: Bouw Botje has no dedicated feature for managing or paying into G-accounts; you handle that in your bank and accounting.

An hour type is the category under which worked hours are booked, such as regular, overtime or travel hours, often with its own rate.

In Bouw Botje: Hour types are queried with reference_hour_types and hour type prices with hour_type_prices_list; hours are logged with hour_logs_create.

An instalment invoice is an invoice for one instalment of the contract sum, usually sent once an agreed part of the work is complete.

In Bouw Botje: With write access you create instalments on a project's instalment statement (project_invoice_term_create), for example “create instalment 4, structural work 80%”.

An instalment statement is the overview of all instalments in which a project's contract sum is invoiced, with the amount or percentage and status of each instalment.

In Bouw Botje: Instalment statements are queried with project_invoice_term_statements_list and created with project_invoice_term_statement_create.

Post-calculation is comparing the actual costs of a project with the upfront calculation afterwards, to determine the margin and improve future calculations.

In Bouw Botje: Ask for example “What is the margin on project Z?”: the AI puts the calculation next to booked hours, material, equipment and waste bookings, purchase invoices and subcontractor contracts.

A progress statement records how far the work on a project has progressed, for example as a percentage complete per work item. It often forms the basis for the next instalment invoice.

In Bouw Botje: Progress statements from Exact Online Construction are consulted with progress_sheets_search and progress_sheets_get (read-only).

A purchase contract is an agreement with a supplier to deliver materials or services for a project, often with agreed prices and instalments.

In Bouw Botje: Purchase contracts and their instalments are managed with purchase_order_contracts_* and purchase_order_contract_terms_*; purchase invoices can be checked against them.

Subcontracting is the situation where a (main) contractor outsources part of the work to another party, the subcontractor, who carries out that work independently.

In Bouw Botje: Subcontractor contracts, contract instalments and linked purchase invoices are managed with subcontractor_contracts_* and subcontractor_contract_terms_*.

The VAT reverse-charge scheme means that, when work is subcontracted in Dutch construction, the main contractor rather than the subcontractor reports and pays the VAT. The subcontractor then invoices without VAT, stating “VAT reverse-charged” (btw verlegd).

In Bouw Botje: Bouw Botje uses the VAT rates from your own Exact Online Construction administration, such as a reverse-charge rate (query them with vat_tariffs_search). Check the rate per invoice line before invoicing.

A work item is a part of a project on which hours and costs are booked, such as foundations, structural work or installations. Together the work items make up the structure of a project.

In Bouw Botje: The available booking lines (work items) of a project are queried with projects_booking_lines.

An administration, called a division in the API, is a separate accounting unit within an Exact Online Construction organisation, for example per legal entity or branch.

In Bouw Botje: Bouw Botje keeps each administration in its own database. Your AI assistant lists your administrations with admin_list and switches with admin_switch. Basic supports 1, Advanced up to 10 administrations.

An API key is a secret code that one application uses to sign in to another. In Exact Online Construction you create it on the API access page, and it applies to the whole organisation.

In Bouw Botje: You paste the key into Bouw Botje once; it is stored encrypted. Generating a new key in Exact Online Construction invalidates the old one immediately.

Bouw7 is the former name of Exact Online Construction (Exact Online Bouw). The platform is still reached via start.bouw7.nl and the API runs on bouw7.nl domains.

Exact Online Construction (Exact Online Bouw, formerly Bouw7) is Exact's construction software for projects, cost calculations, time tracking, instalment invoicing, purchasing and subcontracting.

In Bouw Botje: Bouw Botje makes Exact Online Construction operable from AI assistants through 206 MCP tools.

An AI assistant is a chat program built on a language model that answers questions in plain language and carries out tasks, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot or Google Gemini.

In Bouw Botje: Bouw Botje works with ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, Mistral, Perplexity, Grok, Cursor and OpenClaw, and with any other assistant that supports MCP.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants query data and perform actions in external systems in a uniform way.

In Bouw Botje: Bouw Botje uses MCP to give your AI assistant access to Exact Online Construction, without you having to write any code.

An MCP server is the program that offers tools to an AI assistant via MCP and executes those calls against an underlying system.

In Bouw Botje: The Bouw Botje MCP server runs at https://bouwbotje.nl/app/mcp; you add that URL to your AI assistant.

An MCP tool is one well-defined function offered by an MCP server, with a name, a description and input parameters, such as “search projects” or “log hours”. The AI assistant itself picks the tool that fits your question.

In Bouw Botje: Bouw Botje offers 206 tools: 126 read-only and 80 writing.

OAuth 2.1 is a standard that lets an application access an account without seeing the password, using a temporary token. PKCE (Proof Key for Code Exchange) is an extra check that prevents an intercepted authorization code from being misused.

In Bouw Botje: Your AI assistant signs in to Bouw Botje via OAuth 2.1 with mandatory PKCE (S256); access tokens are valid for 60 minutes and can be revoked immediately.

A prompt is the question or instruction you give an AI assistant in plain language. The more specific the prompt (project number, period, employee), the better the answer.

In Bouw Botje: Example: “How many hours were logged on project PRJ-2026-014 this month, per employee?”

Read-only means a connection may query data but not change anything; read-write also allows creating, updating and deleting.

In Bouw Botje: Bouw Botje is read-only by default: write tools are then invisible to the AI. You enable read-write per user (Advanced plan or trial).
